The purpose of this checklist is to assist the club in identifying potential hazards and risks
prior to the commencement of any on-track activity.
Three groups of people need to know that you're acting as the KAC for the session:
1> the drivers attending the practice
2> the TKC Practice Coordinator
3> Karting WA
This online form will help ease the process of doing your KAC checks and submitting the form.
Checklist requirements:
The KAC Checklist should be used as a tool in the identification of safety concerns prior to the commencement of on-track activities. This checklist is a visual inspection tool only.
This checklist is compulsory:
Karting Australia requires all organisers and clubs to properly fulfil their duty of care obligations to participants and spectators. The Karting Australia National Insurance Program may not extend cover for clubs and officials who demonstrate intentional negligence and/or contempt for these responsibilities. Clubs should address all known risks to an acceptable level.
Who should complete this checklist?
The KAC on duty must complete this checklist. The KAC on duty may ask another qualified Grade-5 or higher official to assist with the inspection but it is the KAC submitting this form that ultimately remains the responsible person.
By completing this checklist and signing it, you are demonstrating that you have taken reasonable steps to identify and address risk. This puts the club in a stronger (not weaker) position should an incident occur.
It also reduces the club’s exposure to potential legal action resulting from injury or property damage during the session.
How to complete this checklist:
Physically walk around the track with this form active on your phone or computer. Based on your observations and assessment, check the boxes as you perform each action.
By checking each box you are declaring that you are satisfied the conditions are safe and acceptable for the session to commence. You must however note anything you feel needs to be highlighted and brought to the club's attention in the space provided.
If, during your inspection, you identify a safety concern that poses a major or significant risk, you must record your decisions/actions in the space provided. You may consider the following as possible actions to address the identified risk:
Control the risk = Using signs, witch’s hats, bunting or modifying the situation, you may reduce the likelihood of this risk occurring.
Avoid the risk = Removing the object this is causing the risk or delay or postpone the session may prevent the risk from occurring at all.
Monitor the risk = Where the risk is unlikely to occur, it is recommended you monitor the risk throughout the session for any changes in circumstance.
Important Safety Notice:
Where a risk is identified that cannot be addressed to an acceptable level, you should seriously consider whether the session should proceed. The session should not proceed where a threat to life has been identified.
Submitting your completed checklist:
Once completed, fill in your name, KOMP ID, email address and phone number and click on the submit button. This will forward your completed checklist to the State Karting Office.
This also officially activates the session. If the session is not activated, there will be insurance and indemnity repercussions in the event of injury or property damage.
Thank you for your understanding and helping keep our Club and drivers safe.
The National Insurance Program relies upon clubs demonstrating risk management via checklists such as this. Failure to submit your checklist may be considered a breach of the Karting Australia Rules.
